  • Looking for peers

Greetings everyone! We've been using Calvert for a little over a year, but hadn't tried the forums until now. We have a 6 year old son who is just about to start the third grade course with second grade math, and are hoping to find some peers for him to interact with, either electronically or...

One night I sat at our kitchen table, head in hands, agonizing over some parenting issue. Was I doing the right thing? Will this come back to bite me in the butt later? Am I really good at this parenting thing? Why didn't I just adopt shelter dogs ~ they'd have been so much easier...etc. My husband...

Same here in Illinois. Our city in particular is currently homeschooler-friendly with additional programs offered at the library and park district. Our park district art teacher is a teacher at a private arts & sciences school for the gifted, and we get her for $8 a class.

Anytime you do anything different, some people are going to pass judgement without really thinking. What makes me laugh is the insinuation that socialization only happens at school, as if school is the only place that will teach my children how to be polite, follow the rules, be a team player, and problem...

I know it's hard not to worry, but Marjie's advice is spot on. Simply enjoy your girls and the homeschooling lifestyle, and the rest will work itself out. My inlaws were the same exact way. They were afraid to express their fears to us, but we knew how worried they were. 7 years later, they proudly...

  • Socialization and Family

Okay, I have a dilemma. I just found out that my mother-in-law does not agree with homeschooling, because of the socialization issue and the things that my daughters might miss out on. However, my in-laws don't ever butt in on other people's business regarding such matters, so they don't...
